Commissioner Mignon L. Clyburn, the first African American woman to serve on the FCC, joined the agency in January 2009.  She has a long history of public service and dedication to the public interest and enjoyed long careers in newspaper publishing and broadcasting.  Prior to her swearing in as a Commissioner, Clyburn served for 11 years as the Representative of South Carolina’s 6th District on the Public Service Commission of South Carolina (PSC), and served a term as its Chair.
